The Connect Inside, by SkyConnect, provides voice and data connectivity, via the Iridium Satellite Network, inside buildings, vehicles, and other non-line of sight environments. This Iridium transceiver utilizes a rugged outdoor antenna housed in a protected dome, which is cabled to the Connect Inside satellite transceiver.
The Connect Inside unit is equipped with a standard RJ-11 jack which may be connected to one or more standard two wire telephones or cordless phone base stations, providing the user with an “Iridium dial tone” indicating that any telephone number in the world can be dialed.
The RJ-11 connection allows extended cable runs to telephones (or base stations), which enables the transceiver to be located near the antenna for better performance. The RJ-11 connector may also be connected to a wide variety of PBXs, providing access to the Iridium network from any telephone attached to the PBX. Incoming Iridium calls can also be routed through the PBX. The antenna and cable, supplied with the Connect Inside, is a high gain helix antenna terminated with a female TNC connector that offers better connectivity when faced with a low satellite angles. (angle satellite configuration.) The antenna is protected by a waterproof housing, and has a threaded base for installation on metal or plastic pipe. A five-meter terminated cable is provided to connect the antenna to the Connect Inside unit.
Features
Power supply
The Connect Inside standard power configuration is DC and is suitable for land vehicles, Marine vessels, and other terrestrial applications requiring DC power supply (such as solar array). DC power requires approximately 10-32 volts with approximately 1 Amp peak at 14 volts, and 0.3 Amp stand-by. An optional universal AC power supply is available and will function on any standard AC power outlet worldwide. The AC power supply connects to the Connect Inside unit using a locking connector provided by Sky Connect. The power supply also requires an AC line cord with country specific plug (20 watts is required, maximum).
Alternate Handset
The Connect Inside is equipped to accept a rugged handset, which attaches directly to the unit. This optional handset is equipped with an LCD display, and a standard keypad for dialing. Also available is a “hang-up cup” which securely locks the handset in place when not in use.
External SIM card Reader
The Connect Inside uses a standard SIM card protected within the unit casing. An external SIM card reader is also available from Sky Connect which can override the internal SIM reader or serve as a stand-alone SIM reader, if there is no internal SIM card. The external SIM reader configuration is especially helpful for multiple SIM users or Marine Crew Calling. The external SIM card reader is available as part of the handset hang-up cup or as a stand-alone device. Both SIM card readers accept large SIM cards, as well as small SIM cards with an adapter.
